Writers get conflicting advice on whether they should write about what they know or whether they should invent. One of the most difficult areas is figuring out how to write about people you don’t know. This session will look at strategies to do justice to your character in such circumstances, but which also ensures the writer keeps wider societal issues of representation, privilege and power dynamics front in mind.
